The first thing we did when designing the digi pack was draw it out, the reason we did this it because it gave us a good idea of what we wanted the outcome to look like. From this drawing we went on Photoshop and started the front cover.
After drawing this we started to make the album cover.
These pictures show how we got to the final image for our album cover, we first set up the tripod in the corner of the room, and then we took 3 separate pictures of our model doing different poses in each bit of the room. We made sure we kept everything in the room in the same place for each picture so that when it came to putting all of the pictures together there was nothing in the wrong place. We then used the ‘Magic Wand’ tool again to select the picture of our model from each image, we then put all of these images of our model onto one image of the room. This is how we made the effect of 3 of the same person in one room. The reason we made the image of 3 of the same person in one room was to show a man dreaming of a girl and only having himself for company.
After doing this we thought the image looked too plain and the colours weren’t as vibrant as we wanted them to be, on this album cover we wanted to make it as colourful as possible, this will make it more noticeable to people that may come across it in shops. First we put the ‘Paint Daubs’ effect on the picture, we did this as it gives a cartoon like effect to the cover, it brings the colours out of the image making the cover a lot more colourful. We also changed the saturation levels of the image to make the colours even brighter after putting the effect on.
After this we had to decide where we wanted to put the album name and band name, we followed our album cover analysis of the Arctic Monkey’s album and chose to put it at the top of the cover, this worked well with this image as there is open space at the top of the image where the band and album names will stand out the most.
After finishing this picture we started to make the back picture, we wanted this picture to be similar to the front cover but with the model standing up and in the middle of the room. To do this we had to get the camera in the exact same place in the room and we had to make sure everything was the same in the background. When making the back cover we also made sure that the fonts were all the same as the front cover to keep that style running throughout the digi pack. We also kept the same colours running throughout the digi pack, we did this by keeping the text black but putting red full stops at the end of each song name.
When we had finished the back cover we started to make the insert when the CD will go. Our initial idea for this was to have a close up picture of the model, the reason we wanted to use this style of image was to make it so we had a range of shots and because from our album cover research we found that this was a popular style of image for our music genre. The main problem we found with this image was that it wasn’t shaped anything like a CD so it looked out of place. After handing it to our focus group we found that we needed to make a new image for the CD part of the digi pack. The is a fan in both the front and the back cover, this was perfect for the CD part of the digi pack as it is shaped like a CD and also links our back cover to our front. We made sure that we kept the effect running through the digi pack so none of the pictures looked out of place. After putting the effect on the picture of the fan we put a sticker saying the band name and album name.
Our last image for a digi pack was the final insert; we thought the best picture to use for this insert was one of the couple when they were together. We didn’t want this to use this picture on its own without any effects as it wouldn’t fit in with the other pages of the digi pack.
This is the picture we took to use for the insert, we thought this image looked to plain and the background did not look right, to fix this we edited out the background so it was just white behind the couple. This still looked to plain so we added the crumpled paper effect. Doing this made it look a lot less plain and also made it link to the poster as it’s the same style of crumpled paper that we will use on the poster. It also followed the narrative of the film as in the film it shows the main person ripping this picture off the wall and screwing it up.
