Animated Storyboard

Recreational shots

This recreational shot shows the bedroom of the main actor; this shot is where our opening clip will happen. We felt that this is the most important place to have our opening shot as a large amount of our video is based around the bedroom so we wanted the audience to get a feel as to what the video will look like. In this shot we plan to do some rhythmic editing, the way we plan to do this is by leaving the camera filming in the corner of the bedroom and having our male actor sit in different places of the room. When editing this we shall make sure that it all is done to the beat of the song. This effect will show that the male actor is anxious about something and is unable to sit still. When it came to filming the video we moved the bed into a different position, this was to give the actor more space on either side of the bed.

This recreational shot was taken in the park that we would later film in, the reason that this particular bench was chosen is that it received the most light throughout the day, this made it easier for us to film as we didn’t have to worry about the lighting as much as we would if we had picked a shaded bench. Another reason why this bench was a good place to film is that the path in front of it has a large walkway going both ways, this was useful to us as it meant that our plan of showing the male actor walking to the bench from one direction and the female actor walking past the bench from another direction would work. This big walk way also gave us a lot of space to film whereas other benches in the park did not.

This shot was taken in the music room of the house. The reason we took this shot is it shows where the performance part of our video would be filmed. This room is an excellent place for us to film as it gave us the opportunity to control the lighting. This room is also full of musical instruments so it gives the room a music studio feel; this was perfect for us as this is the exact look we wanted to go for, for our performance clips. This room was also very good to film in because of the open space it has, this made it so we were not restricted to where we could film by random objects that we might find if we filmed somewhere else.

Focus group responces - Poster

All the way throughout making the poster we knew that the way to get the best results in the end was to hand it out to our focus group like we did with the digipak. We have used the same focus group for all parts of our media e.g. deciding on the genre of music to do, what the digipak should look like and when designing the poster. This helped us a lot as it gave us a lot of different feedback from a wide range of people. The best way I could think of to giving the poster out to people was uploading it to www.postimage.org then sending it to the people in the focus group. Doing this saved time and made it so that we could make the changes as soon as we received the feedback.

This is a picture of the original poster we designed:

These are some quotes that we received from our focus group:

  • “It lacks vibrancy in the background.”
  • “The first time I looked at the poster I found the text pretty hard to interpret, making the text size bigger may help this problem.”
  • “There is too much white space in the background; this makes the poster look plain!”
  • “I really like the idea behind the pictures and where they are placed but I feel as though there are far too many blank spaces on the poster.”
  • “The overall poster is good but I feel as though there is something missing.”
  • “It needs logos somewhere; this will make it look more official."
After looking at these responses we agreed that we needed to put something in the background. We wanted the imagery in the background to link to the narrative of the video as much as possible. As we had put the crumpled  up pictures in the background we thought why not put the whole poster on a blank crumpled piece of paper. This would make it link directly back the narrative really well as part of the video shows the main male actor screwing up pictures of the couple when they were in a relationship.

This was the image we came out with after getting the feedback from the focus group. As you can see by the picture we changed the font size to make it a lot more visible. We also added some logo’s in the corner of the poster as one of the people in the focus group stated that we needed to make the poster look more official. The reason we put ‘RTM’ on the poster is that we also have it on the back cover of the digipak, this stands for Rich and Toby Media. Another thing we changed with this image is the stroke size around each  picture, the stroke is the black boarder around the image. The reason we put this stroke on each picture was to make them stand out from each other.

We felt as though the crumpled paper in the background solved the problem of the blank space. After finishing this poster we uploaded it again and handed  it back out to our focus group, the responses were a lot more positive this time.

These are some of the responses from the focus group:

  • “The crumpled paper makes it look a lot better, fills the space well.
  • “Really like the look of the screwed up pictures along with the screwed up paper.”
  • “The text is looking loads more visible!”
